We spent the day in Vermont with Laura and her family, just a day of catching our breath before the next leg of the trip. We had the most wonderful time. Laura took us to the Gorge, a deep rocky, water filled part of the river that had beautiful formations and just great ideas for paintings. Over 18 people have lost their lives there, it is quite deceptively dangerous. We climbed down to the river and got lots of photos. One of the photos above is of the Gorge.
After the Gorge, we went to town and saw Lake Champlain from a 7th floor apartment. It was absolutely gorgeous. The fog and mist were covering the far side of the lake and the Adirondack mountains were a soft blue behind that.
We met Laura's husband Mark at Flatbreads Pizza for lunch. Wow! I love pizza, but this was the best pizza I have ever eaten. Mark and Laura were very gracious to us for our time with them.
On the way home, we stopped at a fresh corn market and saw milk cows whose milk is used by Cabot for that wonderful Vermont Cabot Cheese. We also saw and petted baby calves in the back behind the milk cows. While we were there, a big yellow lab came up to the market and dug out a dropped ear of corn and when I got the camera out, he sat down and posed for me.
We came back up the mountain to the house for a brief rest and then we were off to the original Ben and Jerry's plant for a tour and sample of today's ice cream, milk and cookies. It was a very informative tour and the ice cream was delicious.
The boys played animal name games all the way home and now we are getting ready for dinner.
The weather has been very cool, with afternoon thundershowers and I am sitting here with the window open listening to the rain caressing the leaves as it falls through the forested areas next to the house. This is one of my favorite spots to visit. I wish Ken could have come with me. He would have loved it.
Our clothes are packed, the car has been rearranged to be more space conscious and PeeWee is ready to hit the road. He has one more night in his crate and then on a pillow once again.
Good night all and catch us tomorrow.
